Men make up a growing share of the injectable appointments we see at our clinic at 66 Portland St in Toronto’s King West. The reasons are usually practical. A frown that reads as tension in meetings, forehead lines that stand out on video calls, or a jaw that aches from years of clenching. Botox and Dysport, sometimes called “Brotox”, give men a way to soften those signals without surgery or an obvious change.
This guide covers how treatment differs for men, the areas we treat most often, and what the appointment and recovery actually look like.
Why more men are booking Botox
Most men come in wanting to look rested rather than stern, and they want the result to be quiet. The goal is rarely dramatic. They want to keep their expression and their structure, and simply take the edge off the lines that make them look tired or intense.
How Botox for men is different
The product is the same. The plan is not. Men tend to have stronger facial muscles, thicker skin, and heavier brows, and all three change both dosing and placement.
In practice, men often need more units than women to hold a result in areas like the frown lines and forehead. Brow position also has to be handled with care. Over-relaxing the forehead can leave the brow feeling heavy, and lifting the outer brow too much reads as feminized. A good male treatment keeps the brow grounded and the face expressive.
We treat the face in motion rather than from a template. Watching how you frown, raise your brows, squint and clench shows us where the strength actually is, so we can dose to it.
The areas men ask about most
Frown lines between the brows, the “11s”, are the most common request. They can make the face look angry or stressed even at rest, and softening them is often the single change that makes the biggest difference. These sit within the broader group of wrinkles and fine lines men tend to notice first.
Forehead lines and crow’s feet are close behind. Both respond well, though the forehead needs a light touch to avoid brow heaviness, and leaving a little movement around the eyes keeps a smile looking like your own.
Beyond the upper face, a few concerns bring men in specifically:
- Jaw clenching and grinding. A strong masseter muscle is common in men who clench or grind, and Botox for the jaw can ease that tension over time while preserving a masculine lower face.
- Excessive sweating. Botox for underarm sweating works by blocking the nerve signals to overactive sweat glands, and results here often last longer than facial treatment.
- Shoulder and neck tension. Trapezius Botox relaxes the heavy upper-shoulder muscles that many men carry their stress in.
What to expect during your appointment
Every treatment starts with a consultation and a review of your health history, medications and any past injectable experience. From there we map your movement and agree on a plan before anything is injected. If it is your first time, our guide on how to prepare for a first appointment covers the small things worth doing beforehand.
The injections themselves are quick. Most appointments run about 15 to 30 minutes with a fine needle, and most men describe the feeling as a brief pinch. There is no general anesthetic and no need to clear your schedule.
Results build gradually. You will usually notice changes within three to seven days, with the full effect settling by around two weeks. Cosmetic results last roughly three to four months, after which movement returns and a maintenance visit keeps things consistent. Both Botox and Dysport are approved by Health Canada and the FDA for cosmetic use.
Downtime and aftercare
There is very little downtime. Most men return to work and normal activities the same day. A few simple steps protect the result on day one:
- Stay upright for about four hours, and avoid rubbing or pressing the treated areas.
- Skip intense workouts, heavy lifting, sauna and steam room for 24 hours.
- Shaving is fine, as long as you are not pressing hard over the injection sites.
Give the result the full two weeks before you judge it. If you have an event, a photoshoot or a major presentation coming up, book two to three weeks ahead so everything has settled.
Keeping the result natural
The concern we hear most often is looking done. A conservative, well-placed plan should read as rested and a little sharper, not frozen. That is the point of treating the face in motion and dosing to the muscle rather than to a formula. Done well, the people around you notice that you look better without knowing why.
We have treated patients in Toronto’s King West since 2018, and our team plans every male treatment around your anatomy and your goals. If you are considering a first treatment, or want a second opinion on results you already have, book a complimentary consultation and we will map out a conservative plan together.
