This is one of the most important questions to ask before any injectable treatment, and we appreciate when clients bring it up. The short answer for Radiesse® is no – it cannot be dissolved the way hyaluronic acid fillers can.
That answer often surprises people. It is also exactly why this product needs to be approached with care.
Most dermal fillers on the market are made from hyaluronic acid – products like Juvederm and Restylane. There is an enzyme called hyaluronidase that breaks HA down quickly. If a client is unhappy with the result or has a complication, hyaluronidase can dissolve HA filler within hours.
Radiesse is a different category entirely. The active ingredient is calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) – a mineral similar to what is found in human bone. There is no enzyme equivalent to hyaluronidase for CaHA. Hyaluronidase has no effect on Radiesse because the chemistry is fundamentally different.
This is not a flaw in the product. It is a property of how it works.
Even though Radiesse cannot be actively dissolved, it does not stay in your body permanently. The gel carrier that holds the CaHA microspheres absorbs over the first few months. The microspheres themselves break down more slowly, typically over 12 to 18 months, as your body metabolises them. What remains is the new collagen and elastin your body produced in response to the treatment.
So while Radiesse is not reversible on demand, it is not permanent either. It runs through a predictable timeline.
In experienced hands, complications are uncommon. But it is fair to ask what options exist.
For minor issues like small bumps or unevenness in the early weeks, gentle massage can help redistribute the product. For more significant concerns, clinical approaches include saline dilution, steroid injections to manage nodules, and in rare cases, surgical excision. None of these are quick fixes the way hyaluronidase is.
The best way to manage Radiesse outcomes is to prevent issues in the first place through careful patient selection, conservative dosing, and precise placement.
The fact that Radiesse cannot be dissolved is the strongest argument we can make for choosing an experienced injector. With HA fillers, mistakes can usually be reversed. With Radiesse, they are much harder to correct.

If you are price-shopping Radiesse, this is worth keeping in mind. Discount pricing often reflects an inexperienced injector, and that risk profile is very different from the same risk with a dissolvable HA filler.
Despite not being reversible, Radiesse is an excellent product for the right person and the right concern. We use it specifically for neck rejuvenation in a hyperdiluted form to improve skin quality, firmness, and texture. It is also used for facial contouring and volume restoration.
What makes Radiesse worth considering is what HA fillers cannot do: stimulate your body to produce its own collagen and elastin. Results last 12 months or longer, and improvement continues to develop for months after treatment. For neck aging, crepey skin, and loss of firmness, this regenerative quality is exactly what we want.
For areas that require flexibility and frequent adjustment – like the lips – we do not use Radiesse. The non-dissolvable nature, combined with the firmer texture, makes it the wrong choice. For lip enhancement, HA fillers are the appropriate option.

Talk about your goals and timeline. If you want a treatment you can reverse on demand, Radiesse may not be the right fit. If you want long-lasting results and are comfortable with the commitment, it can be a strong choice.
Be honest about any history of reactions to injectables, autoimmune conditions, or current medications. Your injector needs the full picture to make a safe recommendation.
