What to Expect During and After Your Tixel® 2 Treatment

Insights from Lisha Chen, RN | Advanced Nurse Injector at Lift Clinic Toronto

Knowing what a treatment does and knowing what it actually feels like are two different things. We asked Lisha Chen, one of our team members at Lift Clinic Toronto, to walk through exactly what happens during and after a Tixel® 2 skin resurfacing treatment, so you can go into your appointment feeling prepared.

What Happens During Your Tixel® 2 Treatment

“During the Tixel treatment, it’s actually quite comfortable because we’ll be numbing your skin for 20 minutes prior,” says Lisha. “And during the treatment, you’re going to feel the titanium plate stamping on the skin and you’re going to feel a little bit of pressure and heat.”

Here’s how the appointment typically unfolds:

Numbing (about 20 minutes): A topical anesthetic is applied to ensure your comfort before we begin.

The treatment (about 20 to 30 minutes): Your practitioner uses the Tixel® 2 device to create a grid-like pattern of micro-channels across the treatment area. The medical-grade titanium tip features tiny heated pyramids that briefly stamp onto the skin’s surface. You’ll feel mild pressure and warmth, most clients find it very tolerable with the numbing in place.

Post-treatment: A soothing hyaluronic acid serum is applied to calm the skin and take advantage of the micro-channels, which allow for deeper product absorption, one of Tixel® 2’s unique benefits.

From arrival to walking out, you’re looking at roughly 45 minutes to an hour. It’s a treatment that fits easily into a busy schedule.

What to Expect After Your Treatment

As Lisha explains: “After the treatment, you’re also going to continue to feel that heat for up to two hours, and then you’re going to have redness on the skin for up to a day.”

The First Few Hours

Your skin will feel warm and look flushed, similar to a mild sunburn. This sensation typically fades within one to two hours. A cool compress or thermal spring water mist can help during this window.

The First 24 Hours

  • Redness gradually fades and is usually significantly improved by the following morning.
  • Mild swelling may occur, particularly around the eyes. Sleeping elevated helps.
  • Avoid washing the treated area until the next day, and skip hot showers and strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours.

Days 1 to 3: The Grid Marks

“The next day, you’re going to have these grid marks that’s going to be a little bit dry,” Lisha notes, “but you can cover up with makeup, and we recommend moisturizing your skin about two times a day.”

The grid pattern left by the device will appear as tiny dots or faint stamped marks. The surrounding skin may feel dry, tight, or slightly textured. These marks are easily concealed with makeup after the first 24 hours, and most clients feel comfortable at work and social events the day after treatment. Don’t pick at the marks, they’ll shed naturally within a few days to a week.

Weeks 1 to 3: Recovery and Early Results

By the end of week one, the grid marks and any flakiness have mostly resolved. Keep your routine simple during this phase: avoid retinol, glycolic acid, and exfoliants for 2 to 3 weeks, wear SPF 30 or higher daily, and stick to gentle cleansers and nourishing moisturizers.

Many clients notice brighter, smoother skin within the first couple of weeks. The most significant results develop over 3 to 6 months as collagen remodelling continues, your skin keeps improving long after the treatment itself.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

For optimal results, we typically recommend 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, depending on your concerns. Maintenance treatments every 6 to 12 months help sustain collagen production. Tixel® 2 is safe for all skin types and features a specialized handpiece for delicate areas like the eyelids, one of the few resurfacing treatments that can do this safely.
